mullayanagiriIs the tallest peak in Karnataka. Mullayanagiri is located in the Baba Budan Giri Range of the Western Ghats. With a height of 1,930 metres (6,330 ft), it is the highest peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris after chembra peak (2100 m),banaura peak(2073m),and vellari mala(2339m) of wayanad district of kerala.

From the top of Mullayangiri you will get excellent views of the Chikmaglur town, and can clearly see how far Chikmaglur spreads. This 1930 meters tall peak can be reached by foot, by motorbike or car from the city. Travellers can also find at the top of the hill a temple one of the old temples of Chikmagalur. Visitors had to climb nearly 1000 steps to reach this temple.

On the way we can also visit Sithallayyangiri, Seethala contains a ‘matha’ and the dual shrine temple of ‘Seethala-Mallikarjuna’.

bababudangiriDattagiri/Baba Budangiri is the location of a small Sufi shrine devoted to the saint Baba Budan and Guru Dattatreya. They were revered by both Muslims and Hindus. Its origin appears to be a syncretization of reverence for an 11th century Sufi, Dada Hayath (Abdul Azeez Macci); for the 17th century Sufi Baba Budan, said to have brought coffee to India; and for Dattatreya, an incarnation of Shiva. Manikyadhara Manikyadhara lies astride a wonderful part of the Bababudan giri and Devirammana Betta and about a kilometer away from Bababudan Giri. On getting there, a set of stairs lead downhill to the foot of the waterfall. This is a small water fall but it is absolute heaven for hikers, bikers, as well as nature lovers of all type. ManikyadharaKemmannagundi is a hill station which is 1434m above sea level. This was the summer retreat of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and as a mark of respect to the king, it is also known as Sri Krishnarajendra Hill Station.Its a point on the highest peak of mountian range.

Lots of view points around this place takes you to another world. The station is ringed by the Baba Budan Giri Range, with cascades, mountain streams, and lush vegetation, Kemmangundi’s has ornamental gardens and mountains and valleys views. There is a spectacular sunset view from the Raj Bhavan.

Situated about 10 km away from the famous hill station Kemmangundi. This waterfalls are inside a coffee estate and can be reached either by walk or four-wheeler. An 8 km trek from Kemmangundi along a steep and narrow path leads you to these sprightly falls. Surrounded by dense forests and coffee plantations, Hebbe Falls gushes down from a height of 551 ft in two stages to form Dodda Hebbe (Big Falls) and Chikka Hebbe (Small Falls.) Don’t miss a refreshing dip in this herb-infused water.

Kalahasti Falls is located at Kallattipura (kallathigiri) in Chikmagalur district of Karnataka, India. The waterfall is 10 kilometers away from Kemmangundi hill station. It offers an excellent view of the cascading water from the Chandra Drona Hill from 122 meters (400 ft) above in front of the Veerabhadreshwara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The Muthodi Wildlife Sanctuary in the Chickmagalur and Shimoga Districts, is one of the most fascinating sanctuaries. Sheltering some exquisite flora and fauna. The great Indian gaur, barking deer, flying fox, mongoose, elephant, panther, macaque, babbler, barbet, blue jay, kingfisher, robin, weaverbird, and drongo… have all made their home here.

Kuduremukha is a mountain range and name of a peak located in Chikkamagaluru district, in Karnataka, India. It is also the name of a small hill station cum mining town situated near the mountain, about 48 kilometres from Karkala and around 20 kilometres from Kalasa.

Around Chikmagalur

belurBelur is known as ‘Southern Banaras’, as it’s temples are as exquisite. The Chenakeshwara temple was built by the Hoysala king Vishnuvardhan in 117 A.D. to celebrate his conversion from Jainism to Vaishnavism.

Belur was the early capital of the Hoysala Empire.[1] With Halebidu which is only 16 km away, this is one of the major tourist destinations in Karnataka. Belur is located in Hassan district. According to inscriptions discovered here, it was also referred to as Velapuri.

Halebidu was the 12th-13th century capital of the Hoysala empire. The Hoysaleswara temple was built during this time by Ketamala (around 1121 AD) and attributed to King Vishnuvardhana.

sringeri90 km west of Chikkamagaluru town is Sringeri situated on the banks of Tunga, a Vedic Peetha established by Sri Adi Shankara, the exponent of the Advaita philosophy in 9th Century A.D. It is famous for Vidyashankara Temple originally constructed by the Hoysalas and later completed by the founders of the Vijayanagar Empire and Sharada temple, an early 20th. century addition. In the Vidya Shankara shrine, there are 12 zodiac pillars, which are so constructed that the rays of the sun fall on the pillar corresponding to the month.

Horanadu: Horanadu is 100 km southwest of Chikkamagaluru and has an ancient Annapoorneshwari Temple, which has been renovated recently. With the installation of the new image of Adi Shakti, now the temple is called Adi-Shaktyatmaka Shri Annapoorneshwari. The place attracts lots of pilgrims who are provided free boarding and lodging by the temple.Every visitor to the Annapoorna temple at Horanadu, irrespective of their religion, language, caste, or creed, is provided with a three-course vegetarian meal (including a dessert made from Dhal or Lentils).

ayyankereThis is another large lake that lies close to the hills of Bababudangiri ranges. It is said that the lake was constructed as early as in 12th century. Ayyanakere is another place popularly used for shooting Kannada movies.

18 kms north-east of Chikmagalur town, this ancient tank is believed to have been constructed by Rukmangada Raya a chief of Sakrepatna. Rennovated later in 1156 A.D. during the Hoysala times, This large tank situated at the eastern base of the Baba-Budan range provides irrigation facilities to about 1,560 hectares of land. On a hillock here is the Prasanna Balleshvara shrine with Hoysala sculptures of Ganapathi, Surya, Krishna, Ambika, etc.
